Hi, my name is Franzi!
A woman who selectively breeds beagles was driving home one day when she saw this beautiful but dirty, thin, anxious-looking German Shepherd walking around a parking lot of an abandoned building, looking dejected and lost. She drove on by but before she got home, she turned around and went back to see if the dog was still there, which she was. Franzi had been using an old car for cover. She seemed afraid, but when the woman opened her car door and called her, the dog turned and came running. And that was the beginning of Franzi's new life! The woman took Franzi home, bathed her, fed her, doctored her, made up a bed for her, and took her to the vet. She posted "Found Dog" signs, puts ads in several local newspapers, posted Franzi on the internet, and called vets. No one responded. Franzi kept looking for someone only she knew, but adjusted quickly to her temporary home. She seemed to be afraid she would be hurt, but as each day passed, she became a little more confident. The woman knew she could only keep Franzi about a month, but she wanted Franzi to go somewhere safe where she knew Franzi would find a good home, so she contacted us.
Franzi is as beautiful inside as she is outside. She is an affectionate girl and loves to be with her person(s). Franzi is still afraid she will be left behind alone again, and was very clingy and nervous at the vet's office, but is getting better. She needs time to learn that she will not have to ever worry about being abandoned again. She has become a very playful, young dog and her eyes now sparkle! She loves you to run with her! Franzi is housebroken! She is timid with other dogs so far, but not at all aggressive! We can tell that it won't take her long to begin playing joyfully with new doggy friends!
The daughter of our volunteer, who went to meet and temperament test Franzi, asked if we could name this beautiful girl in honor of her friend who is a German foreign exchange student. Her name?... Franzi! If you are interested in fostering this girl, let us know. If you need to be approved, you can fill out an adoption application and mark that you're interested in fostering. Franzi is a sweetheart. She will steal your heart!
