Will need a strong, GSD-savvy handler who loves to work with this dog. Gunther would be a fabulous working dog!
Hello, my name is Gunther!
Gunther is a gorgeous male GSD! He is extremely smart and playful. He hasn't had any obedience training but learned "sit" in 5 minutes at his foster home. It takes time for Gunther to bond with people and he has to do it on his own time. He needs to make sure you're o.k. before he will shower you with big sloppy kisses. Gunther has a strong mind and is very focused and attentive when he's alone with his human. His favorite toy is a tennis ball and he will carry one around in his mouth all day if allowed to. His adoptive family should plan to have a steady supply of tennis balls on hand! He hasn't perfected the return of the ball yet, but quickly learned that good things happen when he drops the ball close to your feet...he get so to chase it again. Gunther also likes other toys, especially ones that squeak and he will "talk" back when they make sounds.
Gunther is working on his manners with humans and dogs. He will respond to firm but fair corrections. Gunther would benefit from obedience classes and slow socialization with other dogs. He likes to be the one in charge with other dogs, but after a few walks together he will tolerate them. He would prefer to be with his human family rather than other dogs. Gunther would do better in a home with large female dogs or large submissive males, and no cats.
Once Gunther has bonded with you, he is quite the love bug. He is learning to walk on leash without pulling and improves on every walk. Humans just have so many rules, and he is doing his best to learn all of them.
Gunther needs a home with a savvy GSD owner who will be able to exercise him daily and continue his obedience training. He loves to work, and will thrive in the right kind of knowlegable, loving home.
