Heidi is ready to go to her forever home!

Crates well and is eager to please
Hi, my name is Heidi!

I was a very, very, sick dog when someone decided I was too beautiful and sweet to let die in a shelter.  I struggled for a whole week trying to stay alive.  I knew they were wrong when I heard the vet say I might not make it.  I was determined to recover from advanced double pneumonia because I have an unstoppable zest for life.  After I pulled through I needed a few weeks of recovery time and extra meals.  Soon, I will be ready to go to my forever home.  I have one of those soft and thick plush coats that make people want to touch me.  That's just fine with me because I can handle lots of petting!  My foster mom loves the little white tufts of hair at the tops of my ears that make me so unique. I am a high-spirited, bright, curious girl who explores and runs.  I get many compliments on my beautiful amber and black colors and my distinguished, expressive face.  I come running when I hear my name, especially if it means there might be a treat.  I love to eat and am afraid of going without food like I have had to for so long.  I am learning to eat more slowly and to not take fingers along with the treat!  I love to play with children and other dogs and have shown no aggression toward other dogs.  The foster siblings in this home are tolerant of my tendency to like to run the show.  No cats, please, because I will hurt them.  I try very hard to do what is expected of me and I am almost housebroken.  I crate nicely when the people are away and at night.  Look into my intelligent eyes.  When someone asks me to do something I try as hard as I can to figure out what to do and I just know I would be the star of an obedience class when someone will take me.

When I was spayed my vet found a small mammary lump which was removed during surgery.  Biopsy results found that it was not benign, but the vet said that there was no further treatment needed (she said she got good margins.  I'm not sure what that means, but I'm told it's a good thing).  It's expected that I will live a long healthy, happy life.  My doctor said my new family will have to keep an eye on my belly for any new lumps (I like the thought that my belly will have to be watched -- guaranteed frequent belly rubs!!).  Although it's not expected anything new will appear, it's important that I'm monitored, just in case.  If anything is found, I will need to go back to the vet to have it checked out.  Please don't let this worry you, as I'm not worried, and my vet is not worried, so you shouldn't be either!  If you are looking for an extra smart gal who's more than willing to please you, fill out an application to adopt me right away!
