Hello, my name is Kya!

Hi!  My name is KYA!  The beginning of my new life started when I was found running lost by Harris County Animal Control. Although I am young, I looked like an old haggard dog.  I had been bred over and over again in my short life, and finally dumped.  I was emaciated, exhausted, missing most of my fur, I had a bacterial and a yeast infection of my skin, sarcoptic mange, serious infections in both ears and eyes, a heart murmer, and am HW positive.  When I arrived at the shelter, even the people there were shocked, yet they kept telling me how sweet I was.  They wanted to help me, so they made some calls, and since I am mostly German Shepherd, they begged Greater Houston GSD Rescue to take me.  The rescue group sent out an email to other rescuers asking for help, since they knew I was going to be a large investment.  Within two hours, enough funds had been donated that I could be taken from the shelter, and put in Alvin Animal Clinic.  I could hardly believe that after all I had been through people wanted to help ME.  They took wonderful care of me at the clinic.  They were always stopping by to talk with me or take me outside, and even gave me a blanket, toys and chews.  Six weeks later my skin, ears and eyes are healthy, and my fur is starting to come back.  I still have a way to go before I have my complete beautiful thick fur coat, ruff and tail, but I feel so much better! And my heart murmur has improved so it is barely there.  I still look older than I am and like I've had a rough life, but I am told I am getting younger and prettier looking by the day.

Then one morning a wonderful woman came to take me to my new foster home!  And I love it there!  They say I am the sweetest girl imaginable, and make them laugh because of my sense of humor!  I love other dogs and children, and they all seem to love me.  I am so happy sometimes I think my heart will burst.  And my foster family tells me I will eventually have my very own family to love and to love me!  But that's once I'm all healthy!  I still am getting healthier and gaining weight, and soon I will begin my Heartworm treatment.  My fur already feels much softer and has a healthy glow to it!

Now let me share some things I do in my new foster home!  They tell me I am a sweetie!  I play very nicely with their GSD Daphne's stuffed animals, and we both like to settle down together to "groom" them!  I also love to play just with Daphne, inside and out!  I am very good about sharing bones and treats.

I have learned to sit nicely and to walk on a leash.  When we all go for walks together, I'm told my tail wags so hard I look like I'm sashaying down the street.  My eyes glow and I am just so happy to be on a walk with my "pack".  When my foster comes home from work, I practically jump out of my skin for joy, and then I bounce around the house for a few minutes.  I am wonderful about taking treats and easy to correct with just a noise.  I am very eager to please you and try very hard to do everything right, except I do have to work on my bath experience!  A good time was NOT had by all, but I ended up very clean and sweet smelling!  So did the bathroom!

I also sing!  If my foster is on the computer a little too long for my liking, I start to sing a little to get attention.  So far this seems to be working nicely.

My GSD sister who lives in my foster home is starting cat training soon,  and I will be there too, so then we will know if I am good with cats.  But we know I am VERY good with kids, and go up to them willingly to get petted!  I love air conditioning (I never had that before!), am learning to crate well, and I sleep quietly at night with no barking.

My foster says I am their Jewel!  When I am ready, I want to be someone's Forever Jewel. Love, Kya
