Hello, my name is Martina!
My name is Martina and I am a very loving dog. At first when I arrived at my foster home I was very unsure and nervous. If someone moved too quickly I shied away. But after a few days I discovered that I am in a safe and secure place so I settled right in. I am living with a four month old GSD foster sibling and an 8 month old lab and my foster mom says I am wonderful and very patient with all of the puppy biting and wrestling. I have had no accidents, and will sit by the door when I need to go outside. I am crate trained, though I’m not too excited about going in my crate – I sometimes try to avoid going in. But when my foster mom snaps her fingers I know she means business, so I go right in and don’t make a single peep while I’m in there! What a little lady I am!! I respond really well to correction (don’t all ladies?!?). I know when my human changes their tone in voice, I should stop what I’m doing immediately, so I do!
My foster mom has been working with me on leash because I pull a little bit. I am quickly learning to behave on leash and am getting better each day. I have interacted with other dogs in the neighborhood quite nicely – I just love doggie friends! Though I love to play with other doggie friends, I don’t like sharing my food or treats, so I will need my forever family to continue to work on this with me. I was once living in an abandoned junk yard and was underweight and scared when I was rescued by a group of wonderful people who help the dumped dogs along the 59 Corridor. They contacted GHGSDR, and how could they refuse to take in a dog as wonderful and loving as I am? My days at the junkyard are why I still need a little work on sharing my food with other canines, but I continue to get better!
I will make a wonderful addition to just about any family. I love to play but do not get overly excited. I will need a lot of exercise like any other GSD, though overall I am a calm and relaxed dog, so it will be up to you to remind me to stay fit and exercise! I love affection and will let you love on me all day (and of course I will love you in return), but I also know when it’s time to leave you alone. My foster mom thinks I’m an extra special girl, I hope you do too!
