Hello, my name is Maverick!
Maverick is a bright and energetic young boy who has shown a great ability to bounce back since he came to his foster home. He was very thin and insecure, with little training, and likely never had a toy to play with before he found the big basket of toys belonging to his foster's family dogs. Good thing these big dogs share because Maverick gets every toy out and has become toy crazy! He loves the command "go get a toy" and quickly brings one to you, usually will "sit" before you tell him, then will "out" the toy on command into your hand so you can throw it. He bolts off and brings it right back with an excited expression of "C'mon, let's do it again, please, please!!" His favorite is a bright yellow rubber dumbbell and he will carry it all day if his foster Mom would let him. He is being taught to "find it" since he sneaks it outside and forgets where he dropped it to bark at something.
It only takes a few times to teach Maverick anything because he likes to show you just how clever he is! Maverick quickly learned to "sit and wait" for his food, at the door or gate, and to have his leash put on for a walk. He watches you with keen eyes to figure out what you want so he can be a good boy and make you happy. He showed his foster family how easy it was for him to be housebroken, crate trained, and to walk nicely on a leash on the left side, just like a proper dog! Maverick is a gentle boy who loves to be petted and to be affectionate and he enjoys attention from everyone. Oh, and remember, if you bend over or squat down, you can be sure he will be there in a second to cover you with kisses! His foster Mom and Dad have learned to calm him down before they let him know they absolutely love him, too. He is such a sweetheart!
Maverick has learned to swim by watching the family dogs go to the steps in the pool and paddle off for a refreshing dip. At first he got so wildly excited that he ran laps around the outside of the pool before he finally would leap in off the side, sometimes right on top of another dog! A few snarls and warnings later, he understood that the right way was to enter and leave at the steps. Maverick is a good swim buddy, and helpful, too. When his foster Mom or Dad gets out of the water after relaxing on the pool float, he will go in and get it just in case they might want to use it someplace else! What a thoughtful boy!! Maverick always has a smile in his eyes that reflects his happy, easy going nature. If you would enjoy a friendly, playful, and very smart boy who will shower you with love and bring smiles every day, Maverick would love to do just that for you!
