Hi, my name is Monte!
Life for me has gotten a lot better lately! I spent my first year chained to a tree in a backyard where I dug a deep hole in the muddy dirt to lie in so I could stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Life was not full of any enriching experiences, so everything is new and wonderful! My previous owner told someone he was thinking about shooting me! I'm not sure what that means, but from the look on his face, it wasn't good...not for me anyway! A nice woman talked him into giving me to her so she could try to find a nice family for me, so she contacted GHGSDR and the rest is history! Here I am almost ready to be adopted!
I'm a big, happy boy with warm eyes and a gorgeous coat! I love, love, love people! I have received an A+ from all of the humans who have worked to rescue me for my sweet and friendly personality! I will warm up to you quickly with some kind words and I love to lean against you for some awesome scratches. I get along great with large dogs and children, but I am not fond of cats. I now walk beautifully on a leash, come when called, and understand the word Off. And I've learned how to use a doggie door too!
By the way, after I came into the rescue group, I was named for one of our member's dogs. Her three sons all serve in the military, so her dog is named Monte after the song The Halls of Montezuma. I'm proud that I have the same name!
I still worry a little that when people who love me leave, they might not come back, but I am learning to trust quickly. They are being very matter of fact with me when they come and leave home, so I know all the goodbyes are just little and medium ones. I catch on quickly! I am a wonderful boy....and if I say so myself, every single person who has met me has fallen in love with me!
