Hello, my name is Zara!
Hello, my name is Zara and I am a beautiful, active, and totally awesome young lady who is about two years old. I, too, am a very lucky Hurricane Ike survivor! A good Samaritan turned me in to the shelter a few weeks after the hurricane and told the shelter workers how I was found. During the eye of the hurricane, I was loudly yipping, whining, and what could best be described as "screaming". The lady ventured outside during the calm of the storm to investigate this ungodly noise. Lo and behold, laying almost flat underneath her SUV was where I had tried to find refuge. I was shaking, crying and scared half to death. It took her a while to coax me out from under the car, but once she did, she brought me inside, dried me off, and gave me a warm and dry place to stay. Over the next couple of days, with a safe, loving place to stay, I began to recover from my ordeal. This wonderful lady did all she could over the next few weeks to locate my family, but to no avail. Because she could no longer keep me, she reluctantly turned me in to the shelter. (The lady was sobbing at the shelter because she felt so bad that she could not keep me). You can see by my eyes in the picture taken at the shelter that I was full of fear and sadness because of what I’d endured. But there is also lots of hope there! I truly know that I have been rescued and will find my loving, forever family.
I have a truly fantastic personality, if I may say so myself. I get along with big and small dogs, but I do not like cats at all. I need to go to a home that has no cats. With my personality, I think I will be OK around kids as long as there is supervision. I am truly a very happy girl that just loves to be hugged, petted, and in general fussed over! I guess you could say that I’m starved for attention. I will cling to you for a while until I feel totally safe and secure. Sometimes I do get jealous of the other dogs at my foster family when I am getting some loving because I don’t want to share the affection right now with anyone else. I’m trying to decide if I’d like to be the only dog so I won’t have to share my special people with anyone else.
I am very affectionate, gentle and cuddly. I love to lay at your feet, on your lap, next to you in bed, etc. and nuzzle you. I’m also a real quick learner and will do anything to please. I am fully vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. At the end of November I will be ready for adoption, as I will have completed my heartworm treatment. Everyone says I have been a wonderful dog, I just need a little TLC. I am so happy that GHGSDR is giving me a second chance at life!
